Kew Village’s Hawthorn is introducing a brand-new à la carte menu and early evening/lunchtime Kew Gardens Set Menu, as well as a new Wednesday Wine Club. The restaurant will offer a refined dining experience at exceptional value, whilst retaining the outstanding modern British cuisine for which it has become known.

The brand-new à la carte menu reflects Chef Owner Joshua Hunter’s recognition of the local neighbourhood’s changing need for less formal dining experiences. It gives guests the opportunity to choose from an array of dishes showcasing the best predominantly British seasonal ingredients, including high quality, sustainable meat sourced from HG Walter. The menu consists of the same elevated food that guests have come to expect at the establishment, with fresh, considered dishes, such as:

STARTERS:

  • ‘Stuffed Globe Artichoke Barigoule, Nocellara olives, smoked aubergine caviar, tahini cream’
  • ‘Tartlet of spring peas and Bedlam Farm asparagus, whipped goat’s curd, pea and mint bavarois, hazelnut dressing’
  • ‘Hand-picked Cornish crab & bisque, warm toasted muffin & smoked cod’s roe, semi-dried datterini tomatoes’

 MAINS:

  • ‘Best End and Roast Rump of English Lamb with smoked shoulder ballotine, crispy sweetbread, morels, salsa verde, white onion puree, potato dauphine, asparagus and lamb jus’
  • ‘Poached Cornish Plaice, seaweed butter, St Austell Bay mussels, crushed baby lou potatoes, agretti, lemon confit, vermouth sauce’
  • ‘Hay smoked Margret duck, braised puy lentils, crispy bacon, grilled Tropea onion, croustillant of confit leg, apricot, cime de rapa’

DESSERTS:

  • ‘Banana souffle, dulce de leche, hobnob crumble, salted milk chocolate sorbet’
  • ‘Set almond and Gorse flower custard, gooseberry compote, sugared churros’
  • ‘Millefeuille of Gariguette strawberries, praline diplomat, basil ice cream’

A new earlier, astounding-value Kew Gardens Set Menu has also been introduced, further solidifying Hawthorn’s commitment to the local community and cementing its place at the heart of Kew Village with its considerations to the evolving local needs. The menu is priced at £28 for two courses or £34 for three courses, and is available from Thursday to Saturday, from 12:00 – 14:15 and 17:30 – 18:30.

Dishes include starters like ‘Truffled mushrooms with a crispy St Ewe’s egg, toasted brioche’, mains such as ‘Wild garlic chicken Kiev, crushed Jersey royals, courgette and basil pesto, Wye Valley asparagus’ or ‘Hand Rolled Linguine, new season peas, goat’s curd, roast almonds, mint and aged parmesan’, and indulgent desserts including ‘Warm Valrhona chocolate brownie, banana ice cream’.

Says Chef Joshua Hunter: “We’re first and foremost a neighbourhood restaurant so identifying and prioritising the needs of our local residents has always been so important to me. The core DNA of Hawthorn isn’t changing, we’re still offering sensational dishes using the absolute best quality ingredients at great value, whether you go for the new a la carte or Kew Gardens menu. I want Hawthorn to be a place that really has something for everyone – we want to celebrate your special occasions with you but also welcome you in for a quick bite to eat. Whatever you need, Hawthorn is here.”

Hawthorn also has guests covered when it comes to the next best mid-week activity to try out in Kew, with the introduction of their new wine club, which is already in high demand following the great success of their first events. Hawthorn Wine Club, available every Wednesday from 5-8pm, is a relaxed and informal dining experience, offering exceptional hand-picked wines at an affordable price point. Each week, the team chooses to highlight a selection of standout wines on their impressive wine list, such as this week’s ‘2022 Fifty Summers Rosé’ to welcome in the sunnier days, paired perfectly with the new à la carte menu. In order to showcase a range of different wines and paired dishes, the list and food menu for each will be made available on Hawthorn’s website for the following week every Sunday.

Having only been open for just over a year, Hawthorn has already been included in the Michelin Guide, The Good Food Guide’s 100 Best Local Restaurants, OpenTable’s Top 100 Restaurants for 2023, and was most recently listed in SquareMeal’s Top 100 London Restaurants 2024.
