Pooch & Mutt, the leading pet nutrition and wellness brand, has announced a significant expansion of its scientific research capabilities following the acquisition of a new laboratory at AberInnovation, a state-of-the-art innovation hub dedicated to advancing agri-tech and biotechnology.

Earlier this year, Pooch & Mutt acquired BIOME9, a pioneering microbiome research company supporting veterinary professionals across the UK. Through this, the company now provides dog owners with an at-home Gut Health Test that utilises research, science and AI to analyse a dog’s unique microbiome, helping to identify existing or potential health issues.

The new laboratory facility is located within the AberInnovation campus alongside Aberystwyth University and Aberystwyth Vet School. Bringing all BIOME9 laboratory work in-house will enhance the scientific rigour behind the Gut Health Test, delivering improved accuracy, quicker results, and expanded research capacity to support ongoing product development and innovation.

Paul Dennison, CEO of Pooch & Mutt, comments: “This expansion strengthens our commitment to bringing even better pet care to owners. By investing in BIOME9’s in-house laboratory capabilities, we can ensure the highest level of quality control and deliver faster, deeper insights from our Gut Health Tests. It’s another major stride towards making good gut health accessible and actionable for every dog.

This development also supports where we’re taking Pooch & Mutt in the future. We’re continuously improving our expertise, product portfolio and overall brand to offer the best, science-backed care to all dogs.” Dennison concludes.

The investment also enables the addition of two new bioscientists to the company, increasing in-house technical and analytical expertise ahead of a wider 2026 research roadmap, which includes plans to expand microbiome testing to new sample types and additional animal species.

With this move, Pooch & Mutt reinforces its long-term ambition to lead in pet health by uniting premium nutrition, behavioural understanding and advanced scientific research to support the wellbeing and happiness of pets everywhere.
