Markus Thesleff, CEO of Thesleff Group – the team behind Los Mochis, LUNA Omakase, Juno Omakase, and Sale e Pepe, and previously founder of OKKU Dubai and Pangaea nightclub – has announced the launch of MA/NA, a new high-end Japanese dining and cocktail destination in West Mayfair.

MA/NA will open in January 2026 at 30 Upper Grosvenor Street. The concept draws inspiration from the Japanese belief that every ingredient carries an unseen power shaped by the forces of nature and the craftsmanship that honours it. The term ‘Mana’ refers to the spirit or energy within all things – intangible yet deeply felt, turning individual moments into lasting memories.

The 156-cover restaurant and bar will offer refined Japanese cuisine alongside an exceptional drinks programme featuring cocktails, wine, and sake. Dining and drinking hold equal importance at MA/NA, with the experience designed to flow seamlessly from cocktails to dinner, and naturally back to the bar.

The menu is crafted to celebrate the technique and artistry of Japanese cooking: precise knife work, time-honoured fermentation, and the relationship between land and sea. Every element has been considered and executed with purpose, showcasing the beauty in simplicity and the depth of flavour in purity.

Executive Chef Leo Tanyag, known for his work at Los Mochis, JUNO & LUNA Omakase and previously OKKU Dubai, will lead the kitchen. His menu blends Japanese culinary traditions with contemporary influences. The atmosphere is designed to evolve over the course of an evening, with lighting, sound, design, and service working together to heighten both flavour and mood.

Signature dishes will include Ebi Wasabi, Edamame Aburi with black truffles, Kani Tartare Salad with caviar pearls, Avocado Aburi baked in a flaming shell, Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice, Scallop Dynamite Maki, Bulgogi Robata, Wagyu Ishiyaki seared on Himalayan salt stone, and Truffle & Garlic Fried Rice. A private dining room for up to 20 guests will accommodate intimate gatherings, celebrations, and bespoke chef-led events.

As the evening progresses, MA/NA transitions into a contemporary cocktail bar with a refined yet energetic atmosphere. The soundtrack deepens and resident DJs lead the tempo of the night. The bar programme is overseen by Thesleff Group Bar Director Pietro Collina, of The World’s 50 Best Bars’ Viajante87 and formerly of Nomad and Eleven Madison Park. The drinks philosophy reflects Japanese bartending culture: precision, rare spirits, and 1970s Tokyo-inspired sophistication.

The design features dark wood panelling and warm amber lighting by OV&CO. A striking dragon-shaped banquette spans the lounge, symbolising fluidity, protection, and energy, guiding guests through the space. A handblown Magma light installation by EWE Studio and an open wine room with dedicated sommelier seating further define the setting.

Of the opening, Markus Thesleff said: “Everything we do is intentional and inspired by culture and tradition. I have a love for Asia; my father was born in Japan and my grandfather was Finnish Ambassador to the country, so I have the utmost respect for Japanese culture and ritual. You can see this philosophy running through every detail at MA/NA, from the food to the furnishings. It’s a destination where incredible food, creative cocktails, and best-in-class entertainment meet under one roof, whether you’re here for a post-work drink, a unique dining experience, or late-night cocktails. MA/NA isn’t just a restaurant, it’s a celebration of ritual and the quiet mastery behind it.”

MA/NA will open at 30 Upper Grosvenor Street in January 2026.
