London is about to welcome a festive first, as a unique pop-up bar prepares to celebrate one of Britain’s most iconic pantry staples in cocktail form. This December, visitors will be able to sample a menu unlike any other, pairing the unmistakable tang of pickled onions with an inventive suite of seasonal serves.

Garner’s Pickles has revealed plans to open the world’s inaugural pickled-onion-themed cocktail bar during the run-up to Christmas. Known as the “Garner’s Jar Bar”, this playful and flavour-packed concept promises an indulgent experience for enthusiasts eager to discover just how far their passion for pickled onions can go.

Pickled garnishes have surged in popularity online, with TikTok trends and celebrity posts — such as Dua Lipa’s viral pickle-juice and diet cola creation — helping fuel a renewed fascination. From gherkins in Bloody Marys to the rise of pickleback shots, the moment is ripe for the pickled onion to shine at the centre of the festive drinks scene.

At the “Garner’s Jar Bar”, every cocktail will be prepared using elements drawn directly from Garner’s premium jars — from brine and infused spirits to pickled onion syrups. Expert mixologists will be crafting a festive menu that balances sweetness, tang, and spice, offering guests a surprising way to get into the Christmas mood.

The pop-up will take residence within Bar Swift in Shoreditch, a refined and award-winning venue renowned for its bartending artistry. Spread across two floors and celebrated for its inventive cocktails, Swift ranked sixth in the UK’s Top 50 cocktail bars and has previously featured among the world’s best, making it a fitting home for this seasonal celebration of all things pickled.

The drinks have been designed to appeal to a range of tastes, from the cautious to the adventurous, allowing guests to explore the full flavour spectrum of pickled onion mixology. Each creation aims to inspire visitors with new ideas they can recreate for their own gatherings over the Christmas holidays.
